Post-Election Food for Thought

Regardless of your political affiliation, the results of last night’s election have implications for the tax-free planners.  Remember, David Walker and others have suggested that unless a “Grand Bargain” is struck next year, the solutions required to solve our nation’s fiscal problems will grow more dire and more extreme.  So, with the Democrats controlling the White House and the Senate and the Republicans controlling the House, we find ourselves in the exact same position as we did on the eve of the election.  Given Obama’s lame duck status and the same partisan dynamics that have characterized the last two years, can anything be accomplished?  Can anything be done to stave off higher taxes and draconian cuts in spending?  Remember, not doing anything is a decision in and of itself.  The first real test will be how the government deals with the looming fiscal cliff.  How they handle that should portend what the next four years holds for our country.  The good news is this:  if you make your living in the Tax Free Retirement realm, you still have a really good story to tell.
